About the artist
Ally Gaunt is a Canadian-born, London-based painter working in acrylic and wax pastel. Her large-scale florals pair mid-century modern shapes with loose, expressive mark-making and colour that refuses to sit quietly. Her debut collection, In Full Bloom, launched in [year], and her originals are held in private collections across [the UK]. She also takes on commissions and product design work through her studio, Eat Ally’s Art.
Artist statement
I paint flowers the way they feel, not the way they look. Each piece starts in acrylic, then gets pulled apart and rebuilt in wax pastel: loose lines, colours bleeding into each other, a mid-century shape holding the chaos together. Pretty, not perfect, and that’s the point.
In Full Bloom, my debut collection, is a series of large-scale florals on A1 paper, each named after someone in my life. Every vase, palette and bloom is chosen for them, so the series works as a set of portraits told through flowers.
We’re surrounded by things that are optimised and polished. I make work that is bold, a bit messy and unapologetically joyful, the kind of colour that changes a room the moment it goes on the wall.
